Spanish - Cassandra Dowdy

Ms. Cassandra grew up in the Appalachian Mountains where she attended the University of Virginia’s College at Wise. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, was the Vice President of Sigma Delta Pi, and received the Augosto Portuondo Spanish Award. During college, Cassandra traveled to and taught English in Mexico to third graders at CIMA Educativa, a secular private school.  While in charge of the third grade at Cima, she also enjoyed collaborating with English teachers of grades K-8.  After college, she taught Spanish I, II, and III for four years at a Title I school in Virginia, where she was involved with Academic/Scholastic Bowl, Soccer, and Theatre. She was accepted into the United States Peace Corps, and left for the Federated States of Micronesia where she was training in language, culture, sustainable development, and ESL. She was unexpectedly evacuated, and arrived to South Carolina, where she taught Spanish I and II for Charleston County School District for a year prior to joining the East Cooper Montessori family.
